The Law department has an open position for an Associate Paralegal/ Paralegal/ Sr Paralegal in its Chicago, IL field office supporting the Chicago Personal Injury Litigation team. Located in downtown Chicago (in the central Loop) the Chicago office has a team of attorneys and paralegals who defend and try personal injury lawsuits filed in the states of Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska. The paralegal position will be filled as either an Associate Paralegal, Paralegal or Sr Paralegal dependent on the successful candidate's experience level.
This paralegal position supports the Personal Injury Litigation team with a focus on FELA and third-party lawsuits, working closely with in-house and outside counsel. The paralegal is responsible for a heavy litigation caseload and is responsible for the initial drafts of pleadings and discovery, identifying and gathering documents in response to discovery, preparing legal documents and correspondence, preparing and serving subpoenas, assisting in interviewing witnesses, summarizing records, maintaining electronic files and calendaring litigation deadlines, witness interviews and depositions among others. This position is assigned to the Personal Injury Litigation Team within Union Pacific's Law Department.

- Assist in pre-trial and trial preparation. Assist attorneys during trial as required
- Perform legal and non-legal research to assist attorneys in establishing UPRR's position and formulation of strategy
- Assist in-house and retained counsel in all aspects of litigation management from inception to conclusion, including matter intake, internal and external communication, pleading preparation and review, discovery management, settlement and other case management obligations
Qualifications - Required
- A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Proficient Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) skills
- Excellent time management skills
- Knowledge of applicable legal areas
- Proficient computer skills and experience with legal support technology
Qualifications - Preferred
- 2 or more years experience as a paralegal
- Experience with AI tools such as Co-Pilot or Co-Counsel
