The UHS Corporate Legal Department is hiring a Counsel - Litigation to support general litigation, including affirmative litigation, and corporate liability litigation matters for the UHS Legal Department. The ideal candidate will be someone with a strong commercial litigation background.
Key Responsibilities included:
- Litigation Management – Oversee and manage all phases of litigation, including pleadings, discovery, trial preparation, and settlement discussions
- Affirmative Litigation – Investigate and assess potential litigation to be asserted on behalf of the company and work closely with outside counsel in all phases of such litigation
- Corporate Liability Litigation – Oversee and manage all aspects of the defense of the corporate parent and administrative services company in connection with pending litigation
- Strategic Counsel – Provide legal advice and guidance to internal stakeholders on litigation risk, dispute resolution, and the impact of litigation on business operations
- Cross-Functional Collaboration – Partner with internal teams such as compliance, finance, revenue cycle, operations, insurance, and risk management to develop litigation strategies that align with business objectives
- External Counsel Management – Manage relationships with outside counsel, ensuring efficient and cost-effective handling of legal matters
- Dispute Resolution – Participate in alternative dispute resolution efforts, including mediation and arbitration, to minimize litigation where possible
Qualifications
Law degree with 3 - 5 years' experience in commercial litigation.
- Experience with the healthcare industry or with medical providers preferred, but not required
- Must be admitted into the state bar or have in-house counsel license
