Description
Job Summary:
Small law firm in downtown Mobile, Alabama, seeking a full-time, experienced Litigation Paralegal to provide comprehensive support to attorneys representing insurers and insureds in civil litigation. The paralegal would work closely with attorneys, clients, adjusters, and opposing counsel to maintain efficient case progression, meet deadlines, and support effective defense strategies. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with insurance defense matters—such as personal injury, premises liability, subrogation, or coverage disputes—are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Case Management: Manage defense litigation files from inception through resolution, managing calendars, dockets, and deadlines to ensure procedural compliance.
- Legal Drafting: Prepare, file, and serve pleadings, motions, discovery, and subpoenas.
- Discovery Coordination: Manage all discovery phases, including document collection, indexing, and production, as well as summarizing depositions and records.
- Evidence Analysis: Review and summarize medical and employment records to create chronologies, damage summaries, and litigation evaluations for insurance carriers.
- Logistics & Scheduling: Coordinate depositions, mediations, hearings, and expert witnesses while serving as a primary liaison for clients and adjusters.
- Trial Support: Assist attorneys with factual investigation and prepare trial-ready materials, including witness lists, exhibits, and trial notebooks.
- Administrative Operations: Maintain accurate billing records, utilize case management and e-discovery software, and ensure strict adherence to firm privacy and security policies.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Education & Experience: High school diploma (Degree/Paralegal certificate a plus); prior paralegal experience, ideally in insurance defense.
- Legal Expertise: Proficient in civil litigation, court rules, discovery, e-filing, and trial prep (exhibits/notebooks).
- Drafting & Research: Skilled in legal writing (pleadings/motions) and summarizing complex research.
- Analysis: Ability to review medical/employment records, prepare chronologies, and identify case inconsistencies.
- Case Management: Experienced in handling multiple files and meeting deadlines.
- Communication: Professional verbal and written skills for reporting to attorneys, clients, and insurance adjusters.
- Soft Skills: High attention to detail, discretion, reliability, and the ability to work independently under pressure.
Salary:
$27 - $32 per hour, based on experience
Work Environment:
- Full-time position, flexible hours
- Occasional overtime may be required to meet deadlines
