Job Summary:

The work of Oklahoma State University in Oklahoma City (OSU-OKC) is centered on three principles; student success, employee excellence, and community relevance. Teach classes that will consist of theory, CAT software, speed building, Medical Terminology I and II, English Vocabulary I and II, Punctuation, and Internship. Must be comfortable teaching Mark Kislingbury's theory and technologically savvy enough to teach CAT software and real-time to students.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Prepare classroom materials for use in dictation, speed goal tests, and court reporting and captioning and academic courses.
  • Teach any speed range in the court reporting program.
  • Dictate and test timed material at any speed range from 40-240 wpm.
  • Teach courses required by the court reporting program.
  • Keep up to date in proficiency in computer-aided transcription, real-time writing, and litigation support and any other skill taught in the court reporter courses.
  • Prepare for in-class or on-line/distance education activities, evaluation of students' work, and consultation with students outside of class and/or on-line,
  • Maintain accurate class and other records required by the college.
  • Follow course outlines as agreed upon with direct supervisor.
  • Maintain office hours each week.
  • Observe, support and enforce the regulations, policies and programs of the college.
  • Provide each student with a written course syllabus at the beginning of the course.
  • Refer students to appropriate college sources for information on counseling and other student services.
  • Assist students by providing advice on requirements for successful achievement.
  • Work cooperatively within the college community.
  • Complete all mandatory training as required
  • All other duties as required.

    Position Qualifications:

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Education:
    Associate Degree or equivalent experience and national certification through NCRA

    Experience:
    Must be a with at least five years of experience working as a court reporter or other career field that utilizes the court reporting skills.


    Certifications:
    Nationally certified through NCRA shorthand reporter.


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Ability to write in real time and to operate an electronic stenotype machine.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of office technologies including but not limited to: office computers, fax machines, scanners, internet, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).
    • Experience teaching or providing CART or captioning.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity to a multicultural environment in an effort to work and communicate effectively with all students, faculty, staff and community partners.
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively with high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

    • Ability to communicate diplomatically, clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing to exchange information, give/receive instructions and respond to inquiries appropriately.
    • Must have extensive knowledge of court reporting theory, CAT software, speed building, Medical Terminology I and II, English Vocabulary I and II, Punctuation, and Internship.
    • Must be comfortable teaching Mark Kislingbury's theory and technologically savvy enough to teach CAT software and real-time to students.
    • Excellent organizational skills. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks and balance work assignments.
    • Passion for assisting customers and representing the OSU-OKC and OSU brand with positivity and professionalism.
    • Demonstrated history of ethical and professional behavior.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's Degree.
    • 6-8 years experience in court reporting career field.
    • Knowledge of higher education procedures and policies that include the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education (OSRHE) and legislative bodies.
    • Familiar with the two-year college environment.

    Working Conditions:

    • Must be able to work flexible hours to include some nights and weekends.
    • Work will be performed in an office environment with a significant amount of public contact, in person, by telephone, via email, and various communication platforms.

    Physical Requirements:
    • Duties require extended periods of sitting, talking and listening.
    • Duties require extensive use of computers, telephone and other office equipment.
    • Requires possible lifting of up to 25 lbs. (If an object weights more than 45 lbs., OSU-Oklahoma City requires this to be a two-person lift).
