Deep South is seeking an experienced Director of HR & Claims Management to oversee the company’s employee relations, internal claims management, litigation coordination, and risk management functions. This role plays an important role in managing workplace investigations, handling complex insurance and liability claims, developing company policies, and ensuring the organization remains compliant while supporting efficient day-to-day operations across all divisions. This position will be located at the Corporate Office in Baton Rouge, LA.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage and oversee all internal insurance and liability claims for the company, including auto liability, general liability, property damage, and other operational claims.
Evaluate claims exposure, liability, and risk factors and assist leadership with claim strategy and resolution recommendations.
Serve as the primary company liaison with outside defense counsel on active litigation and pre-litigation matters.
Coordinate directly with attorneys regarding case strategy, discovery requests, document production, settlement discussions, and litigation timelines.
Assist with risk management initiatives to reduce company liability exposure and improve claim outcomes.
Participate in accident reviews, root cause investigations, and loss prevention efforts.
Monitor litigation trends, claim costs, and exposure reporting for company leadership.
Coordinate with insurance brokers, third-party administrators, and excess carriers as needed.
Handle employment-related claims and employee relations investigations with guidance from outside counsel when necessary.
Assist leadership with policy development, compliance matters, and operational risk management initiatives.
Draft, review, and revise company policies and procedures related to HR, safety, claims management, investigations, and risk mitigation.
Ensure company policies remain compliant with federal, state, and local employment laws and industry regulations.
Recommend procedural improvements based on claim trends, litigation outcomes, incident investigations, and operational risk assessments.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires a Juris Doctor (JD) degree and 5+ years of experience in claims management, insurance adjusting, employment law, HR management, risk management, litigation management, or a related field.
Strong understanding of liability claims handling, litigation processes, employment law, and insurance principles.
Ability to interpret legal documents, evaluate risk exposure, and communicate legal concepts in practical business terms.
Ability to manage sensitive and confidential matters with professionalism and discretion.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple matters, and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Experience in construction, crane & rigging, trucking, industrial services, or related industries strongly preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and claims/document management systems.
