Description The intellectual Property (IP) Attorney is responsible for providing legal counsel on IP matters by supporting global regional offices, including patent and trademark prosecution, IP litigation support, and related counseling, and secondarily with contract and corporate legal matters. Works closely with General Counsel, outside IP attorneys, and other Turtle Wax employees regarding IP portfolio and general legal support.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities (In office Monday and Tuesday Lombard IL)
Receive, monitor, and respond to all IP correspondence
Manage legal files and docket program for renewal of intellectual property, payment of annuities, maintenance fees and general maintenance and prosecution
Renew U.S. patents and trademarks with the United States Patent and Trademark Office; work with global counsel to maintain the balance of the portfolio
Advise the team on information and documents to be published to the public by the company for consistency with company intellectual property and products, including marketing materials, advertisements, press releases, informational materials, warranties, product literature and labels, and websites
Act as a liaison between Turtle Wax’s global outside intellectual property attorneys and our personnel regarding prosecutions, infringement, and various related legal matters
Define, train and provide resources on best practices with processes and procedures designed to protect trade secrets with business partners
Maintain annual Turtle Wax corporate minutes and related business registration records
Process and maintain legal invoice files, including obtaining office registration renewals and required documentation
Support global commercial and marketing teams on negotiation of model documents, including nondisclosure agreements, terms and conditions of sale, and distribution and license agreements
Review and redline agreements, such as those with sales representatives, manufacturers, service providers, influencers, agencies, and contractors
Closing Statement:
Perform various legal administrative tasks including review of outside counsel billing, preparation of filings and reports for the company
Remain current with developments in intellectual property law and industry trends, and perform legal research to address the company's intellectual property needs
Represent the legal function in various internal company projects
Provide support for audits and know your customer requests
Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Qualifications
Doctor of Law required. Must be licensed to practice law in the state of Illinois.
3-4 years of relevant legal experience including Intellectual Property portfolio management practice, preferably with a global consumer goods company
Hold an Illinois Notary Commission preferred or willing to apply for one
Working knowledge of trademark laws and trade secret laws
Experienced with contract and document review/drafting
Proficient in office applications such as MS Word, Adobe Acrobat, Outlook, and Excel
The ability to manage a fast-paced, global, and complex workload and docket while maintaining priorities, managing projects, and anticipating issues
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, strong organizational and time management skills
Must be able to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and be able to handle sensitive materials
