Code for America is looking for a talented Contracts Manager who will work closely across multiple teams to manage Code for America’s broad range of organizational contracts, maintain key files and databases, and ensure organizational effectiveness and compliance.

About the Role: 

The Contracts Manager is a critical role at CFA, as we prepare for significant growth and opportunity. The Contracts Manager will engage and support internal stakeholders, external contractors, grantors and government partners to review and execute contracts that ensure legal sufficiency, maintain compliance, and further the organization’s mission. This role provides behind the scenes support across the organization, by delivering timely contracts and agreements, strengthening financial and risk management practices, maintaining essential databases and files, and ensuring contracts and program goals are well aligned. The Contracts Manager possesses knowledge of procurement regulations, contract agreements, and legal terminology, and shares that knowledge with the  organization.

This role may be based in San Francisco or fully remote, and reports to the Senior Contracts Manager. 

In this position you will: 

  • Manages the contracts function, including review and routing of contract documents, amendments, renewals; communicating with internal and external customers and vendors; maintaining contract files and databases; 
  • Analyzes contract or grant requirements, special provisions, terms and conditions to ensure compliance with appropriate laws, regulations, and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Drafts, reviews, and edits standard contracts/provisions and ancillary documents between the organization and potential partners, contractors, grantors, and vendors
  • Highlight and elevate nonstandard terms and conditions with suggested alternatives and solutions
  • Set up and maintain electronic databases and document management systems for contract and grant records, correspondence, and other material.
  • Review, track, and maintain certificates of insurance and work with insurance brokers to handle requests for certificates of insurance.
  • Reviews and monitors contracts metrics, deliverables and timelines
  • Ensures contracts and agreements are approved and executed in line with CFA standards and organizational obligations are tracked, reviewed, and completed in accordance with terms of the contract, regulation, or statute
  • Manage regular and ad hoc reporting and tracking efforts
  • Plans and carries out work using established procedures, conferring with management as necessary on technical questions and/or issues.
  • Track and maintain organizational compliance registrations,  renewals, and reporting

About you: 

  • 3+ years of experience in contract management, contract administration, grant management or the paralegal field
  • Knowledge of contractual language, agreement types, standards, and terminology
  • Service oriented and enjoys managing administrative and compliance processes in service of the organization’s mission
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills
  • Ability to negotiate elements of the contract with an appropriate level of judgement, including ability to identify, analyze, and suggest solutions for contractual and compliance concerns
  • Possess strong organization skills and the ability to balance competing needs with aplomb
  • A high level of computer literacy and experience and proficiency with Google Docs, Adobe, Microsoft Office and Contract Lifecycle Management tools

It’s a bonus points if you/have: 

  • Knowledge of technology and intellectual property 
  • Experience with government contracts 
  • Professional designation: CPCM, CFCM, CCM, FAC-C, etc
  • Nonprofit or philanthropic experience
  • Personal experience with the justice system, social safety net, workforce training, or other mission-relevant government services.

  • Compensation: Code for America’s salary bands are transparent internally as a part of our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, we extend this to our hiring process. This role at this level is ranged from ($93,425 - $101,000) in yearly salary. As a part of our equitable hiring practices, we aim to target the midpoint of the 2nd quartile of the range for all new hires. That target for this role is $97,213. These ranges and the target are for the San Francisco/ Bay Area market and subject to adjustment for cost of living differentials.
