The Institute of Computing and Cybersystems (ICC) at Michigan Technological University is searching for its next Executive Director. The ICC is focused on creating, expanding, and accelerating collaborative and cross-disciplinary research activities centered on computing, data science, and AI. With over 100 members, the ICC includes representatives from over 15 academic departments and every college at Michigan Tech. Since its creation in 2015, the ICC has been one of the fastest growing research units at Michigan Tech, with a broad portfolio of over $10 million in funded research in AI, biocomputing and digital health, computing education, cyber-physical systems, cybersecurity, data science, human-centered computing, scalable architectures and systems, and quantum phenomena, along with their policy implications, ethical considerations, and cultural significance. Founded in 1885, Michigan Tech is an internationally recognized R1 university and Michigan’s flagship technological university, with over $120 million in total research expenditures. Our traditional strengths include automotive, materials, and freshwater research, and computing and information science is quickly becoming another top research area. This growth has been driven by faculty across the whole university and accelerated by the creation of Michigan’s first College of Computing in 2019. Since then, enrollment in computing programs has grown by over 40%. Engineering and computing represent over 75% of the university’s enrollment.
Working with the vice president of research, the academic deans, ICC members, and other stakeholders, the next executive director will increase the institute's research reputation and create a culture of collaboration and growth. This will require visionary leadership and the ability to build new collaborations, support innovation, and create a research environment that will attract new talent. Prior administrative experience and a strong commitment to advancing computing and information science research are essential.

Requirements
The successful candidate should have a PhD in a discipline related to computing or cybersystems and nationally recognized research accomplishments consistent with the rank of full professor. The position is open to areas of computing and information science research, with a particular emphasis on AI and data science. The selected candidate will hold a faculty appointment within the unit most closely aligned to their background, likely within the College of Computing. Beyond their faculty role, the executive director role reports directly to the Vice President of Research.
