- Litigation Associate Attorney
Description
About the Firm
Our practice spans two interconnected departments: an Administrative team handling zoning and land use entitlements before local boards and code enforcement bodies, and a Litigation team that takes the fight into state and federal court when property and constitutional rights are on the line. We litigate inverse condemnation claims, First Amendment challenges to municipal ordinances, class-of-one equal protection cases arising from selective code enforcement, and complementary commercial or property disputes.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a Junior Associate eager to build litigation experience in civil rights and property rights law. This is a hands-on role where you will work closely with senior attorneys on complex cases from intake through trial, gaining real courtroom experience and meaningful responsibility from day one. The right candidate is a quick learner with strong research and writing skills, a genuine interest in constitutional law, and the drive to grow into a leadership role.
What You Will Do
- Support senior attorneys as a core member of the litigation team on civil rights and property rights cases in Florida state and federal court, with increasing responsibility as you develop.
- Assist in developing and executing case strategy, researching defense theories and Eleventh Circuit precedent, and contributing to litigation planning at each stage.
- Research and help litigate civil rights claims under 42 U.S.C. § 1983, including inverse condemnation, First Amendment challenges to municipal ordinances, and equal protection claims arising from selective code enforcement.
- Draft pleadings, motions to dismiss, summary judgment briefs, qualified immunity arguments, and other dispositive motions under the supervision of senior attorneys.
- Assist with depositions of public officials, code enforcement officers, expert witnesses, and clients; support discovery and e-discovery efforts.
- Attend and assist at evidentiary hearings and bench and jury trials, with opportunities to take on courtroom responsibilities appropriate to your experience level.
- Work alongside the firm's Administrative practice on matters that move from the zoning and land use process into litigation.
- Participate in client communication and relationship management, learning to set expectations and counsel property owners and businesses through high-stakes matters.
- Collaborate with paralegals and contribute to a team environment committed to producing excellent work product.
