Description
We are an LA-based boutique law firm specializing in complex civil litigation and white-collar criminal defense seeking a Litigation Paralegal. The ideal candidate will have the skills and knowledge necessary to carry civil and criminal cases through all aspects of the litigation lifecycle from filing through trial and appeals, along with creating shells, organizing office files, and proofreading filings. Additionally, experience in working with e-discovery databases and other types of litigation technology is a strong plus. We are looking for someone personable, who possesses good communication skills, works well independently and in a team setting, and takes pride in their work.
The candidate may choose to work in the office daily or have a hybrid schedule of in-office days and remote days subject to the office’s needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Know how to file and serve documents in state, federal, administrative, and arbitral jurisdictions.
Prepare documents for filing, including Bluebooking, cite- and fact-checking, and proofreading.
Set up pleadings, discovery, and correspondence to support cases from inception to closure in conformity with all applicable rules and requirements.
Research state and federal procedural rules, court rules, and local rules, and act as a consistent reference resource with regard to their application.
Assemble, format, and coordinate service of document productions.
Maintain and manage case calendars and deadlines for litigation and non-litigation matters
Understanding of e-discovery databases and other litigation-based technologies.
Create and organize exhibits for motions, pleadings, and trial.
Maintain and organize a case file.
Provide frequent updates on overall project status.
Complete special projects as needed.
Track all time and create accurate descriptions of work performed for client bills.
Skills & Qualifications:
Proven working experience as a litigation paralegal.
Knowledge of practices and procedures in state and federal trial and appellate courts.
Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Acrobat, Westlaw or other research platforms, and PACER or other online docket platforms.
Strong communication skills and willingness to work as a member of a small, tightly knit team to accomplish mutual goals.
Strong time management and prioritization skills, with the ability to multitask and take on multiple cases and assignments at once.
Familiarity with cite- and fact-checking procedures, including Bluebook standards.
Detailed organizational skills.
Ability to work independently, while also possessing the ability to follow instructions and established procedures.
Familiarity with e-discovery databases, and how to export or load files.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or California Paralegal Certificate preferred.
Preferred minimum of 2 years of substantive civil and/or criminal litigation experience in California and federal trial and appellate courts as a paralegal.
Overtime Eligibility: Eligible (nonexempt)
Working Conditions: Professional law office environment, business casual dress, with occasional overtime as needed.

Requirements
